The cost of soda could be going up. Illinois lawmakers are considering a plan to put an additional one-cent-per-ounce tax on the beverage. That would add nearly three-bucks to a case of soda. Democrat Senator Mattie Hunter of Chicago says it’s similar to other laws that impose taxes on products to help people become more aware of certain health risks.

The proposal is expected to be brought up for debate in the coming weeks in Springfield.
