Meier says the proposed measure is an attack on the state's school system and on those who work in the coal industry in Illinois.
HB5660 would have repealed provisions requiring the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity to carry out programs increasing public awareness and education regarding Illinois coal. The bill's sponsor has placed the legislation on "postponed consideration" meaning it can be brought back if she could garner enough votes.
