State Rep. Dan Beiser (D-Alton) is calling on federal authorities to release disaster relief and assistance to help as the clean-up following the flood should begin soon. Illinois Governor Bruce Rauner issued a disaster proclamation for seven counties that cover the Metro East including the Riverbend. Beiser hopes a Federal declaration follows.

But the crest in the immediate Riverbend area will fall short of the record. In fact, crest levels have been revised down in recent days, although at 35.7 feet it still looks to be the third-highest crest in recorded history at Alton, just short of the 1973 mark of 36.9 feet.
