The ongoing immigration debate has a Latina interest group spotlighting the special problems women are bound to have.
“Some of the programs that we offer are crisis intervention, which includes domestic violence, as well as sexual assault services,” says Maria Pesqueira, president of Mujeres Latinas en Accion (Latin Women Taking Action).

“A huge number of women come to us who have faced sexual harassment and rape at the workplace because of their documentation status.”
Those women feel unable to speak up, for fear of being exposed as illegal immigrants.
Pesqueira's group, working with another – Women for Compassionate Immigration Reform – wants Congress to enact immigration reform.
