Today is your last chance to see the Humbolt Penguins at the St. Louis Zoo for awhile. The penguins are being moved to an off-display area to prepare for construction of the new McDonnel Polar Bear Point exhibit. The Humboldts won't return to the Penguin and Puffin Coast until 2015.
Last week, several bears from nearby exhibits were also moved behind the scenes and will remain there until the construction is complete. The Penguin and Puffin Coast has been one of the more popular displays at the zoo, but in recent months visitors have been drawn to the new Sea Lion Sound which helped bring in record crowds since it opened last year. More than 3.5 million people visited the zoo in 2012.
