Regular voter registration ends today (Tuesday).  While there will be a chance to register in other ways before Election Day, those options will mean casting a ballot somewhere other than a regular polling place.  This will be the first state election with voter registration possible on Election Day, but William McNary, director of Citizen Action Illinois, says that registering before tonight’s deadline will make voting easier.

“We want most people to make sure that they register now and they vote during the early voting period, because we don’t want a big mass of people running to the polls on Election Day,” McNary said.  The only way to be able to vote at a regular polling place is by registering by the end of the day.  The other options, including same-day and grace period registration, involve going to your local election authority and showing more forms of identification.  Same-day registration will not be available at polling places.
Early voting begins Oct. 20.
