U.S. Sen. Mark Kirk wants more sanctions against Russia for its incursions into Ukraine, but he also says the administration must be careful when dealing with Vladimir Putin. While Kirk says he favors sending weapons to Ukraine and imposing harsher sanctions on Russia, Kirk also says there’s a risk of pushing Putin too far.

“You should always hesitate if you’re inching towards potential conflict with Russia,” Kirk said, “because they’re a very potent military nuclear power. (You) want to make sure you’re very careful in this matter.”
Kirk says he doesn’t have much faith in the ceasefire agreement, which has been violated repeatedly by Russia-backed rebels in the eastern part of Ukraine.
