Illinois Senator Mark Kirk is looking to return to the U.S. Senate in January. In his first interview since his stroke, Kirk told NBC-5 in Chicago about his timetable after he climbed 37 floors in a stair-climbing challenge which was sponsored by the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago.
Kirk said he hopes his accomplishment in the challenge "gives a message to people across Illinois who may face stroke." Kirk walks with a cane and the stroke has left him with limited mobility on his left side. After his stroke, Kirk underwent a number of major operations to relieve swelling on his brain. He spent months in a rehab facility and was allowed to go home in May.
