A convicted killer will learn his fate in 10 days. 23-year-old Cody R. McGuire of Granite City originally entered a guilty plea in the 2011 killing of Willie Jason Walton in Gillespie. He filed a motion to vacate the plea, but was convicted in a jury trial in March. A sentencing hearing was held at the Macoupin County Courthouse on Monday.
He and his twin brother David were at a home in Gillespie in April of 2011 when Walton was shot multiple times. David McGuire received 17 years on his 2nd Degree Murder conviction. Cody McGuire was convicted on charges of 2nd Degree Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Sentencing has been set for May 15th.
