A local lawmaker says the Illinois House got it wrong in passing new rules regarding allowing people to register on Election Day.  The House and Senate have approved a measure that would allow same day voter registration as well as increase the early voting period.

The new rules also say voters will no longer have to show an ID when voting early.  Republican House member Dwight Kay of Glen Carbon says the bill is Chicago Democratic politics at its worst:

Supporters say on election day last month, a new rule that allowed same day registration increased voter turnout, but Kay and other Republicans said Democrats offered no proof to support the claims. The bill now goes to the governor for his signature.
