This evening marks the end of a journey for a handful of kids that have run afoul of the law in Madison County. It is graduation night for the Juvenile Diversion program in Edwardsville. The program was launched in 2006 in Collinsville, and now includes offenders from Alton and Edwardsville as well.
The program was founded by Son Life church pastor Rev. Tim Stark. He says this is a way otherwise good kids can get a second chance.
It is a 6 month course that is run by an all-volunteer staff. The juveniles will have some class time, and will also perform community service as they work through the program. Tonight's ceremony at the Madison County Courthouse will also include graduates of this summer's Illinois State Police Youth Camp, which was held at the Alton Mental Health Center.
