Facing drug and gun charges, St. Clair County Circuit Judge Michael Cook has resigned from the bench.  Cook, currently in a court-ordered drug rehab facility, submitted a letter of resignation through his attorney that will be forwarded to the Illinois Supreme Court.  Cook and another judge, Joseph Christ, were together at Cook's hunting cabin in March when Christ died of a drug overdose.

Cook was arrested last week and is facing federal charges, as is a former probation worker who is believed to have supplied Cook and Christ with cocaine the day before Christ died of a drug overdose.   U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen Wigginton said the investigation of the drug scandal is wide-open and is not confined to the St. Clair County courthouse.
