Madison County's Chief Judge has resigned, fueling rumors she may be seeking a higher office. Ann Callis stepped down Friday, but did not announce plans to stay on as a circuit judge, or if she plans to run for congress, as many political pundits are speculating. She is said to be mulling over a bid for the Democratic nomination to Illinois' 13th Congressional district next year.
That is the seat currently held by freshman Republican Rodney Davis of Taylorville. She may announce her plans as early as tomorrow. Replacing Callis as Chief Judge is David Hylla, who was elected circuit judge in 2006. Hylla was in private practice for 21 years, serving as city attorney for Madison and Venice. As Circuit Judge, Hylla was Chief Judge of the Civil Division and Chairman of the Committee to establish Medical Malpractice Mediation.
