A Jerseyville businessman, who is also the husband of the former mayor, has been indicted by a Jersey County Grand Jury on solicitation of arson and solicitation of insurance fraud.   According to the indictment handed up on Thursday, Robert J. Hartmann allegedly attempted to convince an unnamed woman to set fire to a home on July 20.

The Jersey County Sheriff's Department was tipped off by the woman, and police then began an investigation.  The indictment alleges Hartmann not only tried to encourage the woman to set a fire, but also he allegedly attempted to gain money from an insurance policy with the Calhoun County Mutual County Fire Insurance Company through a false claim.  Bond for Hartmann was set at $30,000 and a warrant was issued for his arrest.  He is married to former Jerseyville mayor Yvonne Hartmann, who is currently a member of the Jerseyville City Council and a city commissioner of accounts and finances.
