Teachers in the Jersey Community School District have a new contract. The school board approved the new deal during a special meeting this week that will allow for a 2-percent annual pay increase for both union and non-union employees over the next three years. Employees had already ratified the new deal.
The pact means certified teachers will have no base salary increase during the three year deal, although it does provide for step increases for experience and continuing education. Classified employees, such as teachers aides and support personnel, will also see the 2-percent yearly hike in pay. School district officials say in exchange, employees will see a reduction in the amount of money the district pays for insurance benefits. The contract runs through 2015.
