A 21-year veteran of law enforcement will be retiring in about a month. 53-year-old Mark Kallal has been the Jersey County Sheriff for almost 10 years, but will be retiring on August 4. He says personal family reasons have led him to this decision.
Kallal tells The Big Z whoever is picked to replace him will have to continue to deal with those dealing in the drug trade in the county.

Kallal started his law enforcement career in Greene County in 1995 as a corrections officer, spent a year in Roodhouse as a patrolman in 1997, and then came to Jersey County in 1998. He was elected Sheriff in 2006 after working as a corrections officer and deputy.
