The Jersey County Board will name a replacement for retiring Sheriff Mark Kallal at its next board meeting on August 9. Kallal announced his retirement in late June. His replacement by law will be from the same political party.
Kallal said in a previous interview with The Big Z he is stepping down for personal family reasons. Kallal told The Big Z he loves his job, pointing to the way every day is a new challenge.

Kallal was first elected Sheriff in 2006. The county's Democratic party has nominated Deputy John Wimmersberg, a 10 year veteran of law enforcement, having spent the last three years as a deputy with the sheriff's department.
