The 143rd Jersey County Fair starts today with harness racing at the grandstand. Harness racing and livestock shows usually dominate the first few days of activity, but as with everything that involves money from the state, activities have been scaled back. In past years, there have been horses on the track the first two days of the fair.
But Jersey County Fair Board Treasurer Tom Moore says the horse racing industry in Illinois is suffering, but by consolidating their show to one day last year, they were able to put on a good show.
The Jersey County Fair will kick into high gear next Tuesday with the annual parade through towntown Jerseyville, followed by the Talent Competition. A link to the Jersey County Fair website can be found by clicking on this story at AltonDailyNews.com
