Jersey County is turning 175 years old, and today is the first of several days of events to mark the milestone.  Today is the unearthing of the 1989 Sesquicentennial time capsule at Courthouse Square.  Event co-chairman Dave Isringhausen says the capsule is a central part of the events over the next several days.

Saturday will start with a showing of the Sesquicentennial film at the Stadium Theater at 10am, followed by a program at Courthouse Square at 12:30.  But due to some apparent water damage, the contents of the capsule will not be distributed as originally planned.  A new date will be announced at a later date. Monday will start with a Veterans’ Day ceremony at Jersey Community High School at 10am as well as a final showing of the movie at the Stadium Theater, and the re-burial of the vault with this year’s items at 1pm.  Tuesday will be the Veteran’s Day Parade that also starts at the courthouse at 9am.
