The Alton/Godfrey Rotary Club recently honored two more students as the March Students of the month. Alton High's Christian Porter and Marquette’s Peyton Orban received their awards at the monthly Rotary meeting last week. Students selected for this honor are also eligible to compete for a $5,000 scholarship, which will be presented to one of the students selected as "Student of the Month" later this year.
Christian Porter is the son of Rouzell Porter and Latasha Lefore-Porter of Alton. He is in the upper quarter in his class and is a member of the National Honor Society. He is also involved in several clubs and activities, including the Air Force ROTC program at the school. He has also been a member of the Redbird track and football teams and has been honored as a Scholar Athlete for those activities. He has also been heavily involved in community service projects sponsored by many of the organizations with which he is associated. Porter has been accepted to a number of colleges and hopes to be accepted into one of the military academies where he plans to major in political science and pursue a career in politics.
Peyton Orban is the daughter of Rick and Laura Orban of Alton. She has been a member of several student groups including Student Council, the campus Cancer Awareness Chapter and the yearbook staff for four years. In addition, she has also been a varsity cheerleader and remains active in several volunteer efforts through her church and other community groups. She will attend Missouri State University and pursue a degree in entertainment sports management.
