If you are the victim of a fire, flood, or any other major disaster, having insurance will help you get back on your feet quicker than if you overlook having the coverage. January is the time the Illinois Department of Insurance recommends taking a look at your coverage, and if you are a home owner or a renter, shopping around for the best deal.
The best deal doesn't always equal the best price. Having a local agent is one thing many in the industry reccomend. Mark Terry, with the Illinois Department of Insurance, says even if you have a local agent, and have submitted all of the paperwork in a timely fashion, those suffering a major loss often call the department asking the same question.
Terry suggests business owners also do a regular examination of their coverage, to make sure it still fits their needs, especially in the case of a growing business. In all instances, he also recommends storing important papers, documentation, and other bits of information vital to the business or residence at an off-site location.
