The Illinois State Police have announced forty-seven cadets have graduated from the 7th Annual TeamIllinois Youth Police Camp. The week-long residency camp was held at the Alton Mental Health Center starting earlier this month. It's designed to help teens overcome their struggles through self-discipline.
The camp is based off of a military-model of discipline and includes para-military drills, physical fitness exercises, and classroom instruction on drug abuse resistance and bullying. Special Agent Daron Barge of the Illinois State Police says they also included a community outreach that helped some area residents spruce up their homes.
Barge says the cadets also watched police S.W.A.T. and K-9 demonstrations, participated in teambuilding exercises, and learned the dangers of illegal drugs.
