The Illinois State Police are working with local law enforcement agencies to make sure that children are safe in school zones. Distracted driving remains a big problem on roads throughout the state according to Illinois State Police Education Officer Calvin Dye Jr. He says that being a distracted driver is dangerous anytime but that it is especially reckless to be on your phone or other electronic devices when traveling through a school zone.

He says school zone safety starts with drivers being alert.

Dye also reminds that it is illegal to pass a parked school bus and warns that being caught with a cell phone in your hand while driving is a moving violation, which could cause your insurance rate to rise.
