People claiming to be from the IRS have been calling residents in the Riverbend again this week. It’s believed to be a scam since many of the callers are threatening imprisonment if a payment is not made, the callers have thick foreign accents, and in a few cases the callers begin cursing their intended victim before hanging up.
Several listeners to the Big Z began getting the calls again earlier this week, while others posting on social media confirm the callers claim they work for the IRS. The Better Business Bureau has issued several past warnings of this type of call and BBB Investigator Bill Smith encourages you to warn friends and family not to fall for it:

Smith says if someone calls you out of the blue and claims you owe them money, you should automatically be suspicious. He says to never give out any personal financial information, social security number or even your home address to anyone over the phone that you don’t know and have never done businesses with.
