Protestors from across the globe have descended upon Illinois to protest the upcoming NATO summit in Chicago. Speaking to reporters in Chicago, protestors from Germany, the Philippines and Ireland have a unified message for international leaders attending the two-day NATO summit Sunday and Monday: pull military installations out of Afghanistan. They have another message aimed specifically at the U.S.: shut down military bases in foreign countries.

“When you ask the population around these military bases, it’s a clear answer in majority, ‘no, we don’t want to have them there,’” said Tobias Pflueger, a German who is a former member of the European Parliament. As demonstrations against NATO happen in Chicago, demonstrations will take place across the world in a show of solidarity.
