The state of Illinois is gearing up to launch an insurance exchange later this year, around the first of October. A spokesman for the Illinois Department of Insurance says this will allow you to find the best price to satisfy the new insurance mandate. Mark Terry says that may lead to an exodus from the insurance plans offered by employers if you can find a plan that is less expensive:
He reminds policies on the health care exchange will not be so-called government insurance. It is a clearing house of various plans, similar to the Expedia or Travelocity sites where you can go to shop for travel options. There will also be subsidies available for some individuals and families. As of January 1, federal law states everyone must have health insurance.
