Ever wonder what kinds of high quality and locally produced products are made by the inmates of the state’s prisons? Later this week Illinois Correctional Industries will showcase a variety of products manufactured by more than 870 inmates of the Illinois Department of Corrections.
The showcase will be in Springfield at the DOC office Wednesday and Thursday and will feature a variety of products ranging from street signs, office furniture, baked goods and even environmentally friendly products like hand soap and hand sanitizer. The showcase is free and open to the public. ICI is a legislatively mandated program that’s been around since 1976 and is meant to rehabilitate inmates through vocational training.
