Authorities are investigating an explosion earlier this morning at Amsted Rail in Granite City. So far, seven people have been reported injured including three who suffered serious injuries and were transported to hospitals in St. Louis. The others are being treated at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. So far, there is no word on the cause of the incident.
The explosion was previously attributed by some media sources to American Steel, but that information was incorrect. Amsted Rail is located on Walnut Street near Niedringhaus Avenue, which is near American Steel and other local manufacturers. The blast took place just after 8:00am and first responders were called out from the Granite City Fire Department and Abbott Ambulance. The names of those injured and their conditions have not been released.
