An Independent candidate has joined the race to replace outgoing U.S. Congressman Tim Johnson. John Hartman, from Edwardsville, has filed petitions with the State Board of Elections. He'll face Democrat David Gill and Republican Rodney Davis in November if all of his signatures are approved and he's allowed on the ballot.
He is the Chief Financial Officer of a technology company based in St. Louis. He says it's going to take a leader with some backbone to step up and tackle tough issues, especially when it comes to the climate change, and says he supports cap trade.
He has filed more than 8,000 signatures with the State Board of Elections. Only 5,000 are required, but he wanted to allow for the possibility that some may be ruled ineligible. Hartman says his sense of history and his set of principles are important qualities he brings to the race.
