The Mississippi River levee project is nearing completion, but one of the men in charge of overseeing the project says there has been inaccurate reporting about funding for the project.  According to a pair of television and newspaper accounts, the project lost more than $20-million in federal funding in a dispute over a labor agreement.

Southwestern Illinois Flood Prevention District Council Chief Supervisor of Construction Chuck Etwert tells The Big Z that is not the case.

He says the work going on between Alton and Wood River is some of the most ambitious of the whole effort.  Etwert believes the project will be completed and certification attained sometime in 2017, preventing flood insurance rates from going "shy high."
