The presidential debate season is over. How will the debates bear on the election? The final debate was on foreign policy, traditionally a snoozer of a topic for the American electorate, says Matt Streb, political science professor at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

“What voters are gonna be looking at on Election Day is they’re gonna be voting based on the economy, and so I think in many ways, having foreign policy come last, let the debates kind of end with a whimper,” he said. Streb says the candidates know domestic policy is where votes can be gained, and both tried to translate foreign affairs to the domestic economy where they could. He there are few undecided voters, and of them, few probably listened to a foreign policy debate, so he’s doubtful that the final debate will have much impact on the outcome of the election.
