With tax season about to gear up, the Illinois Department of Revenue will be able to send out tax notices and pay some vendors due to a recent appropriation measure passed by the lawmakers and signed by the Governor. A spokesperson for IDOR says the $1 million for operation and contingent expenses means the department will be able to purchase postage to mail forms, correction notices and tax assessments.
Another area the funds will be used for include data entry of taxpayer information, armored courier pickup and delivery of cash to the bank and resources needed to conduct underage alcohol compliance examinations and tobacco inspections. The money will also be used to provide partial payments to vendors to cover critical services until the budget impasse is resolved. IDOR says the department continues to provide all essential services at this time.
