An Illinois-based candy maker is moving most of its production across the state line. Pease's Candy, Incorporated has been in Illinois for 80 years but company officials say that tough times are forcing them to move to St. Louis and merge with a company there. Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate is a family owned business in St. Louis that will take over much of the production.
Pease's Owner Rob Flesher says high gas prices and increases in the Illinois minimum wage are two factors that led to the decision. Several of Pease's ten production workers will be offered jobs elsewhere in the company. They will maintain three retail outlets in Springfield, but production will move to St. Louis by the end of the summer.
