The state off Illinois is fast becoming known as the home of the great pumpkin grower.  Illinois has long enjoyed a reputation as being the nation's leading supplier of canned pumpkin pie filling.  But according to the "Tribune," more Illinois-based farmers and entrepreneurs are getting involved in pumpkin growing to capitalize on that growth.

Last year nearly 16-thousand-acres of Illinois farmland was used to grow pumpkins, up from 13-thousand-acres in 2008.
