As the weather warms, the Illinois Department of Transportation is gearing up for its spring maintenance program. With a wet winter now in the rear-view mirror and warmer weather, IDOT Engineer Joe Monroe tells The Big Z they are getting ready to fix roads around the district.

He says they are also planning to do three full mows along the state highways in the district, but must be mindful of the habitat of the region's animals and wildflowers. Monroe says they must be very conscientious about handling milkweed, since that attracts the Monarch Butterfly, the official insect of the State of Illinois.
