The Illinois Department of Transportation is continuing to monitor area roadways. At this point, an agency spokesman says they have closed all of the roads they believe will be impacted if they are not already taking on water, including the Great River Road from Alton to Pearl.

That 24 hour mark would end sometime Wednesday mid-morning. He says there is some good news. Areas that don't usually flood but did so due to the enormous amounts of rain such as IL 143 at IL-255 and IL 159 north of 143 near Edwardsville are slowly returning to normal. In fact, 143 east of I-55 has now been reopened, according to Monroe.
