If you’re thinking about drinking and driving this Superbowl Sunday… think again. The Illinois Department of Transportation and Illinois State Police are once again teaming up to keep drivers safe on gameday. IDOT Spokesman Josh Kauffman says police will be looking for more than just drunk driving violations.

“Law enforcement will also be looking for safety belt law violators as well in an overall effort to boost safety and improve road conditions across the state,” he says.
Kauffman says your best defense against an impaired driver is to wear a seatbelt at all times. In the past three years there have been five fatal crashes on Illinois roadways, four of which were due to alcohol.
