Ice on the Illinois River has closed the Brussels and Kampsville Ferries leading into Calhoun County. The Illinois Department of Transportation made the decision on Wednesday to close the boats until the ice clears.
The closures are a fairly common occurrence during the winter months as the ice builds up on the Illinois River during colder weather. IDOT has placed signs along highways leading to the ferries to notify motorists of the closures. Drivers can use the Joe Page Bridge at Hardin for access to Calhoun County.
