If you are a resident of Alton or Godfrey and are a customer of Illinois American Water, you may find a more noticeable chlorine taste or odor to your water over the next month or so. Illinois American Water will be performing its annual "free chlorine" and main-hydrant flush programs over the next four to six weeks, and wants to make area residents aware of the possible effects.
Illinois American Water spokesperson Karen Cotton says customers could notice a drop in pressure or a rise in the chlorine taste to their water during this time. She says some slight discoloration is also possible.
