A rookie and a veteran took the top prizes at the hog- and husband-calling contests at the Illinois State Fair.
Seymour's Chris Karr says he's entered 24 times and won ten. “Loving to do this is one of the secrets,” Karr said. Another: practicing far from anybody else.
A first-time contestant won Sunday's husband-calling competition.
“I said, 'We can do this. We can do this,'” Bea Brennan of Paris, Ill., said she remarked while watching the contest a year ago. Sure enough, this year she is a champion, aided by husband Rick, wearing a T-shirt reading, Yes, dear.
