You are invited to a discussion on human trafficking this Saturday in Wood River. The Presbyterian Women's organization is hosting the event at the United Presbyterian Church from 2-4pm. No reservations are necessary, but organizers warn an informative video may not be suitable for small children.
Human trafficking is defined as the trade in humans, most commonly for the purpose of sexual slavery, forced labor, or for the extraction of organs or tissues. And it may be happening right under our noses, according to event spokesman Karen Wilson.
Wilson says many who traffic humans used to traffic drugs, but realized you only have to invest in a person once, whereas you have to continually purchase drugs to turn around and sell. The United Presbyterian Church is located at 2550 Rock Hill Road.
