Today's planned session for the Illinois House is canceled.  House Speaker Michael Madigan said last week that lawmakers will meet every Wednesday through June. But a message that went out to lawmakers early Tuesday said this week's session is canceled so working groups can continue working uninterrupted.

Last week, Democratic state Rep. Jack Franks from Marengo urged Gov. Bruce Rauner to call lawmakers back to Springfield. Franks criticized the working groups.

Rauner has yet to commit to calling a special session. He says he's working to negotiate with Madigan to find more days for lawmakers to come to Springfield for a budget deal. Session ended May 31 without a budget. The next fiscal year begins July 1.
