A day at the Capitol can include a lot of big things and a lot of little things.
The Illinois House passed resolutions in favor of healthy snack options in state rest area vending machines and of bright colors on toy guns. A resolution is non-binding.
“It is increasing your options,” not restricting them, said State Rep. Don Moffitt (R-Gilson), on the vending machine issue. “I had a retired trucker (tell me) this has been needed for a long time.”

Moffitt has attracted attention with his recent 100-pound weight loss.
State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford (D-Chicago) says a federal law preventing “replica” guns from being the same color as the real thing could prevent a case such as that of the 12-year-old Cleveland boy killed by police whose realistic-looking gun turned out to be a toy.
