While the contractor contacted Ameren Illinois immediately, the utility was not able to shut off the line in time to prevent the explosion.  Two people were taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, and later transferred to Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.  The house has been reduced to a pile of rubble, but the area has been secured while the investigation proceeds.

The devastation is located behind Dollar General and Hardee's.
