This is the first day of the rest of the Illinois legislative session.  Sunday afternoon, on what customarily is the adjournment day, May 31, House Speaker Mike Madigan (D-Chicago) announced a “continuous session,” with no mileage reimbursement or per diem for lawmakers, starting today.

It won’t be the unfinished state budget, though; it’s workers’ compensation which will take up the representatives’ attention.  A news release Wednesday from Madigan’s office says the House would consider legislation “to reform the system of assistance received by workers injured while on the job.”

The announcement promises the willingness to compromise with the governor and to attempt to ease the burden on Illinois employers while still protecting the interests of injured workers.

The Senate will be in session Tuesday (June 9).
