The Illinois House closed out the week with Democrats taking another whack at the governor’s “Turnaround Agenda.” After previously hearing from injured workers from both Illinois and out-of-state – with only the Illinoisans satisfied at how they were treated – the House ran bills inspired by the governor’s platform. The pattern has been for the Democrats to write their own bills and then vote them down.

State Rep. Jay Hoffman (D-Swansea) carried the workers’ compensation legislation on behalf of the speaker. State Rep. Ron Sandack (R-Downers Grove) challenged Hoffman to vote Yes on all bills he carried.
Sandack: “You’re good at killing bad bills, right?”
Hoffman: “We don’t believe that injured workers should not receive adequate compensation. If you guys want to take a strong Present vote, go ahead. Really strong! Showin’ guts!”
The whole thing occurred shortly before the governor’s package of bills was filed with the House and Senate minority leaders as the sponsors.
