Hazing allegations at an Illinois high school have inspired a bill at the statehouse. State Rep. Martin Moylan (D-Des Plaines) is sponsoring a bill that would allow prosecutors to charge someone with hazing if that person knew about hazing but failed to report it.
“Fellow teammates sexually assaulted the student by sodomizing him with foreign objects,” Moylan told members of a committee. The investigation centers on the soccer team at Maine West High School in Des Plaines. Two coaches are suspended, pending dismissal.

State Rep. Chris Welch (D-Hillside) agrees this should not be taken lightly. “I don’t think this is what we would sometimes refer to as ‘anecdotal,’” he said. “We know that hazing occurs.”
H.B. 1443 has passed the House Judiciary Committee.
