The Illinois House has passed new guidelines for schools so high school students can become more financially literate. Democrat State Representative Dan Beiser of Alton was a sponsor of the bill that would require consumer education classes to cover additional topics.

The Federal Reserve Bank of New York estimates that total student indebtedness now exceeds $1-trillion. The bill has already passed the Illinois Senate and now moves on to the governor for his signature.
