This weekend is the 26th annual Horseradish Festival at Collinsville's Woodland Park. Today through Sunday, festival patrons will gather to celebrate and sample various varieties and recipes using the tasty root. It started on a 2-hour festival on a wagon in downtown Collinsville, but has grown to its current 3-day format, drawing about 30,000 people.
Festival chairman Mike Pamatot says due to the unique makeup of the area soil, there is cause for celebration.
Events this weekend include root golf, a root toss, root sacking contest and root derby. There are also non-horseradish themed events, like a washer tournament, fishing derby, and live music.
