A top Illinois veterinarian says the state's horse breeding industry is in disrepair and threatened to become a mere shell of what it once was.  Kenneth "Doc" Walker tells the "Journal-Register" the problem with the horse industry in Illinois starts with smaller purses being offered by statewide tracks.

According to the Illinois Racing Board purses last year totaled 24-million-dollars, down from 41-million-dollars in 1993.
